I don't know you, but I believe I know why you're here. You are here on behalf of a child who needs your love and support. As a parent, you've learned empathy, patience, and a deep understanding of human nature - both the raw and the radiant. Someone trusts you with their life. I know you may be overwhelmed by the great responsibility. I know that your actions have the power to shape someone’s world.
As an occupational therapist, I know that the things we do each day forge new pathways in our brains and in our bodies, literally shaping us to live the lives we create.
This is not just a warm fuzzy idea. Certain activities actually change the chemistry of your brain, affecting anxiety, empathy, confidence. Step by step, small actions lead to big change.
WHY I'M CREATING WHOLE SELF IN
Something is missing from the systems that provide for our education and our health care. Systems designed to protect us have a way of isolating us. Caring for each other is a basic human need, not something that can be measured and delivered in just the right dose.
If you've been searching for the right tool, technique, or treatment, I urge you to look closer to home.
There are wonderful interventions and programs out there (and not enough, to be sure). Yet if all the tools you have to help your child succeed are found outside of your home and your community, you have a problem.
Parents, you are not supposed to do this work alone. Teachers and caregivers, when you are supported, you’ll start to see potential instead of limits.
The things we do each day forge new pathways in our brains and in our bodies, literally shaping us to live the lives we create.
I'm tired of waiting for the right school or program to open. I've heard enough about parents searching everywhere for therapy, waiting months for authorizations, or losing a service that was dropped by their insurance plan. I'm tired of seeing the amazing work you do go unrecognized and unsupported.
I'm committed to creating a support network that goes beyond surface level parenting advice. A group that not only understands your journey, but actively develops hands on learning and support alongside you.
To make sure we develop a system that works, I'm running a three-month pilot program - from May 1st to July 31, 2017.
